I sleep with this on everynight for my daughter,
I actually won this product to do a review on because my daughter has acid reflux and colic. Anyone who has had a baby with colic/acid reflux knows that it’s extremely hard to soothe a crying baby and white noise and music helps. My daughter finds the white noise soothing and she sleeps with this on every single nap and through sleeptime. I am so used to this being on that I have to have it on as well. I like the music for when I am feeding her and she is awake or when we play. Some of the sounds are a little strange, one sounds like a train and I can’t imagine it being soothing at all for a baby. I have another sound machine that I put in my daughters room and the timer shuts off after an hour, I like the fact that this allows me to keep it on and shut it off when I want to. I had the other one in my room & it would shut off and wake us both. I would recommend this to someone who wants a white noise machine to soothe their colicky infant.

|Noise is fine, plug is spotty,
The noise on this is fine (you have six choices of music, and another six of “soothing sounds”) — some of the sounds are pretty alarming and I’d imagine wouldn’t soothe a baby but with all those choices, that’s fine. What is a problem is the plug — the actual prongs are shorter than other appliances and it has fallen out of the wall a few times. We’ve tried it in a few outlets and haven’t had this problem before with other baby stuff. We’ve only had it a few weeks os I can’t weigh in yet on durability but I would say it looks like if you dropped it once it wouldn’t last, so take care of it and keep it out of the hands of your little one.

Junk,
Our old white noise machine broke down (after constant use for 15 months) and we couldn’t find it at the store, so I picked up this one at Target. It is lightweight and seemed like a good choice until I plugged it in. The noises are tinny and very artificial sounding. And the songs are none I recognize; with our old one at least we had “Rock-a-bye Baby” and some recognizable Mozart music but this one has generic everything. The one plus about the First Years product is that you don’t have to buy the premium model (which tauts a night light); the on/off button on this lights up when “on” and is very bright. We will be taking this back and buying a repeat of our old machine (Graco Sweet Slumber Sound Machine). Now THAT one is worth the extra money!
